How to Make Cajun Kielbasa Pasta

Start by getting all of your ingredients out and ready. Cut the kielbasa into thin slices, about 1/4 inch each, and dice the onion. In a large pot (I use a 5 quart pot), heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the kielbasa, diced onions, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for about 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are translucent. Then, add your minced garlic and allow that to cook for about 30 seconds.

Next, pour the can of tomatoes into the pot, followed by the milk, chicken broth, and farfalle. Stir everything together and then using your spatula or spoon, press the farfalle down so they are submerged into the liquid. Bring to a boil, uncovered. Once it is at a boil, cover the pot and cook for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, remove the pot from the heat, remove the lid, and stir. Then add the parmesan cheese. I prefer to stir in the parmesan a little at a time to prevent the cheese from clumping. Then return the lid to the pot and allow it to sit for 5 minutes to thicken the sauce. Once I have plated the dish, I like to top it with a little more shredded parmesan.

How to Store Cajun Kielbasa Pasta

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to four days. You can reheat the pasta either in the microwave or on the stove. To reheat in the microwave, remove the lid and cook in 30 second intervals until fully heated. Stir after every 30 seconds. To reheat on the stovetop, heat a little olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the leftover Cajun kielbasa pasta along with about 1/4 cup of milk or chicken broth. Stir continuously until the pasta is heated and the liquid is absorbed.

Substitutions and Variations

Kielbasa – I like to use turkey kielbasa, but you can also use smoked sausage.

Cajun seasoning – If you would like this recipe to be a little less spicy, use less Cajun seasoning.
